Origin: The practice of toasting dates back to ancient times and is believed to have originated from rituals involving the offering of drinks to deities or spirits. The term "toast" itself comes from the practice of placing a piece of spiced toast in wine to improve its flavor.
- Procedure: Typically, one person stands and calls for everyone's attention, then makes a speech that acknowledges the reason for the celebration or honors a specific person or event. After the speech, everyone lifts their glasses, often says "cheers" or "to [the person/event]," and then takes a sip of their drink.
