Definition
Pretend is a verb that means to act as if something is true or real, even though it may not be. It’s kind of like playing make-believe or putting on a show. When you pretend, you’re imagining or pretending that something is happening or that you’re someone else. Pretend can also mean to claim or suggest something that is not true. For example, if someone pretends to be sick to get out of going to school, they’re pretending to be ill when they’re actually not.
